TRT Results & Expectations FAQ
4 questions answered about results & expectations for testosterone replacement therapy.
What should I expect during the first month of TRT?
During your first month of TRT, expect: improved energy and mood within 1-2 weeks, possible water retention and weight gain of 2-5 lbs, minor injection site soreness, potential acne breakouts, and gradual libido improvements. Full effects take 3-6 months. Your provider will adjust dosing based on your 6-8 week blood work.
Can TRT help with weight loss?
TRT can support fat loss by improving body composition — increasing lean muscle mass while reducing visceral (belly) fat. Studies show men on TRT lose an average of 3-6 kg of fat mass over 12 months. However, TRT works best combined with resistance training and a protein-rich diet for optimal body recomposition.
How much muscle can you gain on TRT?
Men on TRT with proper training can expect to gain 5-15 lbs of lean muscle mass in the first year, depending on training history, genetics, diet, and dosage. TRT restores the anabolic environment needed for muscle growth but does not produce steroid-like gains at therapeutic doses (100-200mg/week).
Does TRT increase libido?
Yes, TRT typically increases libido significantly in men with confirmed low testosterone. Most men notice improved sex drive within 3-6 weeks. Libido improvements peak around 3-6 months. If libido does not improve, your provider should check estradiol levels and consider other contributing factors.
